Paola Calvo is a spanish Director and Cinematographer born in 1981 in the big city of Caracas. Paola graduated in Audiovisual Communication at the Universidad Complutense Madrid in 2005. Her interests in the image as a powerful way of storytelling, brought her to study photography and film editing. In 2006 she began studying cinematography at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin (dffb). In 2012 together with Steffen Köhn she co-directed “A Tale of two Islands”, a two channel video installation which was shown at Berlinale Forum Expanded. In 2014 she won the Best Cinematography Award at the 10th New Berlin Film Award Festival for “The Visitor”, a film by Katarina Schröter. “Violently Happy” is the culmination of her studies at the Film Academy, a 92 Minutes Documentary, financially supported by Berlin Film Fonds Medienboard, with rbb TV Channel and dffb Film Academy as Coproducers.
