The Mayor of Gdynia Award
For the next time Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival in cooperation with Gdyńskie Centrum Filmowe is also organizing the Festival in Gdynia A jury, consisting of: Katarzyna Figura, Mikołaj Trzaska, Mirosław Przylipiak will give out The Mayor of Gdynia Award and 15 000 PLN to the winning film from the Festival Main Competition.
Mikołaj Trzaska, saxophonist, bass clarinetist and movie composer, grew out of “yass” – a socio-artistic movement that in the 1980s and 90s opposed what the participants saw as the rigidity of the Polish jazz environment. Trzaska was the co-founder of the most important yass group – Miłość and the similarly creative Łoskot. The leader of the national improvised-music scene. Today he is the leader of the international quartet INNER EAR, IRCHA – CLARINET QUARTET, Danish-Polish trio Volumen. Above all he sees himself in the mode of radical contemporary free jazz.
Mirosław Przylipiak, film historian and theorist, translator, head of the Department of Film and Audiovisual Culture at the University of Gdańsk and lecturer at the Journalism Department of Ateneum-University in Gdańsk. Fellow of the Fulbright Program at Harvard University (1998–1999) and the Rockefeller Foundation (2002).
Katarzyna Figura, cinema, television and theatre actress. Graduate of the Academy of Drama in Warsaw (1985), she continued her education at Conservatoire d’Art Dramatique in Paris. She has been present in Polish cinema for 30 years now and starred in the movies of such directors as Piotr Szulkin, Filip Bajon, Roman Polański, Marek Koterski, Barbara Sass, Andrzej Kondratiuk, Ryszard Brylski and Jerzy Gruza. She appeared in some international productions as well (for instance in Robert Altman’s “The Player” and “Prêt-à-Porter”). She lectures at Gdynia Film School.
