Extended Q&A with Yuri Ancarani
after the premiere screening of THE CHALLENGE
(preceded by the short feature WHIPPING ZOMBIE)
In Polish and Italian
Yuri Ancarani, Italian visual artist and film director, is one of the most interesting contemporary artists, combining documentary and video art. His visually stunning works, along with magnificent sound and music, create spectacular images of various parts of the world, invariably throwing new light on the seemingly well-known and documented places and themes. In his work, two elements play an important role: the image, often focused on insignificant – one would say – elements, and the soundtrack sometimes barely perceptible in the background. At the festival we will present the biggest ever review of Ancarian’s work in Poland. Ancarani’s video work has been featured in major world-class museums and art festivals (including the Guggenheim Museum in New York, Rome’s MAXXI and the Venetian Biennale), as well as the world’s major film festivals: Venice, Rotterdam, Hot Docs in Toronto, IDFA in Amsterdam or SXSW in Austin, Texas.
