MASTERCLASSES: BADY MINCK

The 14th Millennium Docs Against Gravity will provide an opportunity to take a closer look at the works of Bady Minck, an experimental filmmaker whose films make regular appearances at such festivals as Cannes, Venice, Berlinale and Locarno.

This year’s edition of the festival will hold her masterclasses. Our audience will also get to see five of Minck’s films: “The Man with Modern Nerves”, “Mécanomagie”, “In the Beginning Was the Eye”, and “MappaMundi”, “Beauty Is The Beast”.

Bady Minck, sculptor, author of experimental animated films and film producer born in Luxembourg, is one of the most intriguing contemporary film artists who keeps pushing boundaries – those between contemporary art and cinema as well as within the cinema itself. To create her unique experimental works, she easily combines animation, documentary film, and visual essay.

The artist creates her own imaginary universe through the technique of stop-motion animation recorded on film.  Her world is shaped by her artistic sensitivity. As early as in the beginning of her film career emerged the main themes of her art: the human-nature relationship, architecture as an element that organises as well as interferes with the world, deliberations on the mankind’s role in the life of the planet.

Bady Minck’s films have been screened at the most important film festivals (i.a. Cannes, Venice, Rotterdam, Locarno, Berlinale, and Sundance), while her art work has been exhibited in the most acclaimed contemporary art galleries (her works are to be found, among others, in collections of Centre Georges Pompidou).

Minck is also engaged in teaching – she has been a visiting lecturer at a number of universities and art academies.
