Compilations on cassettes, rewinding and fast forwarding, pressing play and record at the same time, changing sides, signing labels with a marker, spooling entangled tape with a finger. Cassette players with built-in loudspeakers and cassette pockets. Retro players are not just gramophones – cassettes are back in fashion. When Zack Taylor, director of “Cassette: A Documentary Mixtape”, found out in 2011 that the Oxford English Dictionary
is considering removing the term “cassette”, he could not believe that the essence of his childhood and adolescence is to be left with no definition.
Luckily the following years proved that cassettes have not been forgotten. They are back, and Zack Taylor, thanks to DJ’s and labels unburying cassettes, found the topic for his documentary. On the first day of the festival, after the premiere of “Cassette: A Documentary Mixtape”, we invite you to a special party with DJ’s playing simultaneously in Cafe Kulturalna, barStudio and in the vicinity of the festival club, the Defilad Square.
Friday 12th of May | 10:00 p.m. | barStudio & Cafe Kulturalna
Opening party: Millennium Docs Against Gravity vol. 14 on cassettes
