”The Internal Ear” is a story about a fulfilled dream of a man who took a risk: he quit art studies in favour of playing the saxophone, gradually unveiling his potential as well as his limitations. We watch him following the once chosen path, accompanying him at work and in his meetings and conversations with friends. The film’s technical aspects are determined by the music and its changing and often irregular rhythm.

Some of the film’s key elements are the animated parts inspired by Trzaska’s improvisations and created by Marcin Podolec, a renowned illustrator, comic artist and film director. The film unveils the protagonist’s internal landscape, in particular his inspirations and creative friendships, including those with Andrzej Stasiuk and some of the greatest stars of the international jazz scene. Trzaska’s creative biography has also been marked by his Jewish ancestry and his relationship with his father, also an artist, which add another layer to the film’s already multifold narrative.
