We reveal the first titles from the 14th edition of our festival

“Tokyo Idols”, “The Workers Cup”, “Machines”, „Last Men in Aleppo”, „MappaMundi”, „The Good Postman” and „It’s Not Yet Dark” were all screened at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Polish audiences will be able to see them in May, as part of the 14th Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival.

This year’s edition of Millennium Docs Against Gravity will take place on 12-21 May in Warsaw, Wrocław, and Lublin, and on 17-26 May in Gdynia. A local edition of the event will also take place in Bydgoszcz.

“Tokyo Idols” (dir. Kyoko Miyake) gets at the heart of a cultural phenomenon driven by an obsession with young female sexuality and internet popularity. Girl bands and pop music permeate Japanese life.

In “The Workers Cup” (dir.  Adam Sobel) inside Qatar’s labor camps, African and Asian migrant workers building the facilities of the 2022 World Cup compete in a football tournament of their own.

A visceral, intensely cinematic experience, “Machines” (dir. Rahul Jain) explores the intertwining of worker and machine, labor and commodity, and humanity and industrialization.

In “MappaMundi” (dir. Bady Minck) through the eyes of cosmic cartographers, the viewer takes a voyage through 950 million years of Earth history and 15,000 years of cartography. This accelerated journey visualizes the change in our world—a change unnoticeable in a single lifetime.

Told through indelible, lush images, “The Good Postman” (dir. Tonislav Hristov), this quietly cinematic film exposes seismic divisions regarding immigration and what it means to be European in an age of global displacement and shifting political systems.

“It’s Not Yet Dark” tells the story of Simon Fitzmaurice, a talented young Irish film maker with ALS (MND), as he embarks on directing his first feature film through the use of his eyes and eye gaze technology.
