The audience of the 14th Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival will be able to see the Polish premiere of “Untitled” (screened at this year’s Berlinale), the film on which the legendary director Michael Glawogger was working before he died.
Michael Glawogger’s excellent films were a big part of Milennium Docs Against Gravity – the biggest Polish festival of documentary films. The director was unable to finish his last movie. He contracted malaria and died in 2014, in Liberia. The excellent editor Monica Willi, who had worked with Glawogger for years, decided to finish the film two years after his death.
‘This film seeks to create an image of the world that can only be made if you don’t follow a topic, try to judge or pursue a particular aim. It’s about allowing oneself to drift along, propelled by nothing except your own curiosity and intuition.’ These are the words of Michael Glawogger about the film.
Monica Willi (who has also worked with Michael Haneke) managed to create out of the footage shot under Glawogger’s supervision a restless picture about movement, travel, the unknown, and encounters with the Other.
“Cahier Africain” joins the roster of the 14th Millennium Docs Against Gravity
“Untitled” isn’t the only film shown at this year’s Berlinale that will have its Polish premiere at the 14 th Millennium Docs Against Gravity. The Polish festival will also show “Cahier Africain” directed by Heidi Specogna.
“Cahier Africain” is a documentary film about the testimonies of crimes committed against the civilian population of the Central African Republic. 300 women, children, and men, describe with incredible bravery their suffering, bearing witness to the events that took place between October 2002 and March 2003.
Initially, the film was meant to help women who were victims of abuse recover from the experience. – The resumption of hostilities in the Central African Republic made that impossible – noted the director.
“Untitled” is shown in the Panorama section of the 67th Berlin International Film Festival, and “Cahier Africain” by Heidi Specogna – in the LOLA section. Both films will have their Polish premieres at the 14th Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival, which will take place on 12-21 May in Warsaw, Wrocław, and Lublin, and on 17-26 May in Gdynia. A local edition of the festival will also take place in Bydgoszcz.
